Terms of Use

The terms for using the MGx8 website, Windows software and paid licenses.

Last updated: 17 October 2026

1. Who these terms apply to

These terms cover the MGx8 website and software offered by Iványos László Barnabás e.v., trading as MGx8 Technologies. Our contact and registration details are in the Legal Notice. Mandatory consumer rights under the law applicable to your purchase continue to apply.

2. Products and compatibility

MGx8 offers Windows applications for supported BMW MG1 engine control units and vehicles: MGx8 Logger (live data logging, log review, road dyno estimates and drag timing), MGx8 Tuner (an editor for the calibration data in BIN files) and MGx8 Flasher (identifying an engine control unit, saving a backup and writing calibration data). Tuner works on files on your computer and does not write to a vehicle; writing to a vehicle is done with Flasher.

Check the current vehicle list, system requirements and feature descriptions before purchasing. Compatibility can depend on the exact vehicle, engine, control unit, interface and software version. Results from logging, road dyno and drag timing are estimates or measurements for information purposes and should be interpreted with appropriate care. Tunes and calibration values that come with Tuner are editing aids, not a promise of any result on your vehicle.

3. Buying a license

Licenses are sold per product. MGx8 Logger and MGx8 Flasher are each offered as a Single VIN license and an Unlimited VIN license; MGx8 Tuner is offered as one license for one computer. Only the licenses shown with a Buy button on the website can be purchased online; for any other license, write to us. Prices are shown in USD; any applicable tax and the final amount are presented during Stripe Checkout before payment. The advertised checkout is a one-time payment, not a subscription. After successful payment, the license key is shown on the confirmation page and emailed to the address supplied during checkout; for Tuner and Flasher the email also contains a link to download the application. Keep the key private and contact us if delivery fails.

Some parts of MGx8 can be used without a license: Logger can load saved runs in Log Viewer, Dyno and Drag, and Tuner can open, edit, compare and save BIN files. A license is needed to connect Logger to a vehicle and view or record live data, to apply the built-in Stage tunes in Tuner (the Tune function) and to connect Flasher to a vehicle.

4. License scope

A Single VIN license (Logger or Flasher) binds to one vehicle when first activated. An Unlimited VIN license (Logger or Flasher) can be used with any number of vehicles on one computer; its first activation binds it to that computer. A Tuner license is not tied to a vehicle: it enables the Tune function on one computer, and its first activation binds it to that computer. The computer is recognized by a hashed identifier, described in the Privacy Policy. If you need to move a computer-bound license to another computer, contact us.

Your purchase grants you a right to use the MGx8 software with the purchased license type; ownership of the software and its intellectual property is not transferred. Do not share or resell a key, bypass license checks or interfere with the service. If you believe a key has been compromised, contact us.

5. Updates and service availability

We may issue fixes and new versions, and the applications may check for updates and offer to install them. Features and supported vehicles can evolve. Internet access is required for activation, license checks and updates: MGx8 Flasher checks its license with our server every time it starts and does not open without a connection, and MGx8 Tuner verifies its license with our server before the Tune function is enabled. We aim to keep downloads and activation available, but maintenance and technical interruptions can occur. We will address problems with reasonable care and honor any remedies required by law.

6. Safe and lawful use

Use MGx8 only where it is safe and lawful to do so. Do not operate the software while driving or use vehicle data displays in a way that distracts the driver. Road testing must follow traffic laws and take place in a suitable environment. You are responsible for checking your vehicle, equipment and local rules before using the software.

Tuner and Flasher change calibration data and can write software to an engine control unit. Such changes can affect engine behavior, reliability, emissions, safety, the vehicle warranty and whether the vehicle may be used on public roads, and a write that is interrupted or fails can leave a control unit unable to run the engine until it is recovered. Use them only on vehicles you own or are authorized to modify, keep a verified backup of the original data, use a stable external power supply while writing and check the result before driving. Changing emissions- or safety-relevant calibration may be illegal for road use.

7. Responsibility

MGx8 provides tools and cannot check every vehicle, file or configuration. You decide what to change and write on your vehicle. We are responsible for our software and services as required by law. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability, or your statutory rights, where the law does not allow that.

8. Refunds, privacy and support

Our Refund Policy explains how to request a withdrawal or refund. Our Privacy Policy explains how purchase and activation data are handled. For support or a complaint, email info@mgx8tech.com.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms for future use or purchases. A material change will not remove rights that already arose under an existing purchase. The date above identifies this version.
